Whether you’re new to the world of rear mount bike racks or have been using them for years, there are two common problem you’ll probably run into – the front bike wheel swiveling and front bike wheel hitting the car rear bumper

We all know and love our rear mount racks due to its convenience and safety, but it can be frustrating when it causes damages to our car and bikes. Luckily, there are a few things you can do to prevent this from happening and make your life easier.

Keeping Your Bike Handlebar From Moving On The Bike Rack

For those who uses trunk or hanging hitch mount racks, the risks of your front wheels swiveling or hitting the car rear bumper is much higher since the bikes are secured by resting the bikes’ top tube on the rack and secured with straps.

Most trunk and hanging hitch rack owners experience the front bike wheel hitting the car rear bumper because the front wheel is swinging and swiveling during transport. Thus, damaging the car rear bumper.

So, how do you prevent your handlebar from swiveling and moving while on your bike rack? The best way to stabilize the handlebar and front wheel and reduce movement when transporting on trunk or hanging hitch mount racks is to use a hook and loop strap to stabilize the front wheel to the down tube and the bike crank to the upright of the bike rack.
